The Senior Director of the Deputy Dean’s Office partners with the Deputy Dean in the overall management of the academic divisions of the school and of faculty affairs. The Senior Director oversees operations of the office, manages priorities, supervises staff, writes communications, and independently handles projects. The Senior Director represents the Deputy Dean in her duties with the faculty and senior administrators, including those in the central university, and external constituents including donors. This position requires sensitivity about confidential matters, excellent communication and analytical skills, and a high level of knowledge about academic administration and faculty affairs. The position works closely with the Dean’s Chief of Staff in the administrative overlap between the Dean and the Deputy Dean.

Responsibilities include :

  • Assist the Deputy Dean in developing and implementing strategic initiatives and priorities. Anticipate future challenges, opportunities, and priorities, effectively managing and using sound judgment to determine when issues should be escalated to the Deputy Dean and when they can be addressed independently.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring alignment with the Deputy Dean's goals.
  • Coordinate and manage special projects and programs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Deputy Dean and internal / external stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence on behalf of the Deputy Dean.
  • Lead and manage the Deputy Dean’s administrative team that are in a variety of functional areas, including institutional data administration, faculty affairs, and academic registration.
  • Plan and execute high-profile events, meetings, and engagements.

Qualifications

Master of Science and 7 to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and extensive academic experience is required.

Additional required qualifications include :

  • Experience managing complex issues and problem-solving
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
  • Demonstrated expertise in professionally managing relationships with high-profile individuals, effectively navigating complex interpersonal dynamics with tact, diplomacy, and resilience.
  • Strong foresight and prioritization skills, with the ability to anticipate future challenges and opportunities, exercising sound judgment in determining when to escalate matters to the Deputy Dean and when to address issues independently.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively crafting and delivering key messages to various stakeholders, including faculty, senior administrators, and external parties
  • Strong ability to analyze complex information and make strategic decisions
  • Higher education leadership experience
  • Proven track record of handling sensitive information with discretion and integrity
  • Capable of adapting to changing situations and effectively managing multiple priorities

Preferred :

  • Experience managing budgets
  • Faculty affairs or academic operations experience

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
