Based in Metslawier, the Netherlands, this position involves developing varieties for the global Fresh markets, including Europe, North Africa, and Asia. The key responsibilities include understanding market needs and translating them into genetic solutions. An essential part of the role is to lead an effective breeding system and organize and evaluate trials in target markets. The role is supported by research groups in:

• Molecular Biology
• Plant Pathology
• Quality, Bioinformatics, and Biometrics

Main Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage an innovative breeding program for the Fresh market segments, including the preparation, management, organization, and assessment of trials with national and international fields.
2. Stay updated with the latest developments in breeding technologies, such as QTL-mapping, GWAS, resistance breeding, physiology, breeding strategies, new breeding technologies, and data science.
3. Visit customers, growers, and relations to convert product needs into sustainable profiles in collaboration with product managers.
4. Develop varieties based on future-proof and innovative product profiles.
5. Compile crossing programs.
6. Prioritize and coordinate activities with research groups within R&D: Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Quality, Biometrics, and Plant Pathology.
7. International travel is required and can be intensive during the season.
