This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Xentral. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) Core - Remote in Germany.

Join a fast-growing SaaS environment where backend excellence is key to product scalability. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of modernizing and evolving core services that support product teams across a dynamic platform hosted on AWS. This role empowers you to shape architecture, clean up legacy systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive performance and reliability. You'll work in a remote-friendly, high-impact environment with plenty of autonomy and a shared passion for code quality and engineering standards.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain core backend services using PHP (Laravel), with the opportunity to use Go.
  • Drive architectural best practices, guiding teams on APIs, database design, and performance optimization.
  • Lead modernization efforts, replacing legacy components with robust, scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate with PMs and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure maintainable and scalable backend systems.
  • Contribute to infrastructure discussions and enhancements for the cloud platform hosted on AWS.
  • Foster a strong code review culture and maintain high standards for testing and documentation.
  • Ensure platform scalability, reliability, and performance at all times.
  • 5+ years of experience working on complex backend applications or large-scale platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, ideally with Laravel; familiarity with Go is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience working with legacy codebases and transitioning them to modern architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to make thoughtful architectural decisions and coach others on backend practices.
  • Independent, solution-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Commitment to code quality, testing, and long-term maintainability.
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus.
