Hornetsecurity is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in Hanover to own and evolve backend services powering cybersecurity products. You will design, implement, and maintain scalable systems in a distributed environment, collaborating with product, QA, and UX/UI teams.

The role requires 5+ years in backend development, strong Python skills, and experience with databases like Elasticsearch, SQL, or Redis. Hybrid, full-time work from Hanover is offered, with opportunities for mentorship and shaping

Join our Email Security team as a Senior Backend Engineer and help build, improve, and evolve the backend services powering our cybersecurity products.

You'll work in a technically demanding environment where performance, scalability, reliability, and security matter. From improving existing systems to designing new services, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful engineering challenges and influence how our products evolve.

Full-time hybrid in Hanover.

Your Job

• Take technical ownership of existing and new applications or services within our cybersecurity product ecosystem.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
• Lead and contribute to architectural decisions and help shape long-term technical direction.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other developers, product management, system engineers, UX/UI, and QA teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Mentor and support Junior Developers, fostering best practices and continuous improvement.
• Work across multiple products, contributing to new features, improvements, and long-term maintenance.

Your Profile

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Developer, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Strong Python experience, experience with Java or Go is a plus.
• Experience designing, operating, and optimizing relational or non-relational databases. Experience with Elasticsearch, SQL databases, or Redis is especially relevant.

• Comfortable working in UNIX-based environments, especially Linux.
• Strong experience building and maintaining scalable, high-quality software within complex, distributed systems.
• Strong analytical skills, structured thinking, and a high sense of ownership.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.

Experience in any of the following areas would be useful, but you don't need to tick every box.

• Experience with designing and maintaining systems hosted on-premises.
