Job summary

Hornetsecurity in Hannover is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own and evolve backend services powering our cybersecurity products. You will design high-quality software, lead architectural decisions, and collaborate across product, DevOps, and QA to deliver end-to-end solutions.

The role emphasizes performance, security, and reliability in a distributed architecture, with opportunities for mentorship and cross-product impact in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development experience.
• Strong Python experience; Java or Go is a plus.
• Experience with relational or non-relational databases (Elasticsearch, SQL, Redis).
• Comfortable in UNIX-based environments, especially Linux.
• Strong experience building scalable distributed systems with ownership mindset.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

You\'ll work in a technically demanding environment where performance, scalability, reliability, and security matter. From improving existing systems to designing new services, you\'ll have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful engineering challenges and influence how our products evolve.

Full-time hybrid in Hanover.

Your Job

• Take technical ownership of existing and new applications or services within our cybersecurity product ecosystem.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
• Lead and contribute to architectural decisions and help shape long-term technical direction.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other developers, product management, system engineers, UX/UI, and QA teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Your Profile

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Developer, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Strong Python experience, experience with Java or Go is a plus.
• Experience designing, operating, and optimizing relational or non-relational databases. Experience with Elasticsearch, SQL databases, or Redis is especially relevant.
• Comfortable working in UNIX-based environments, especially Linux.
• Strong experience building and maintaining scalable, high-quality software within complex, distributed systems.
• Strong analytical skills, structured thinking, and a high sense of ownership.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.

Experience in any of the following areas would be useful, but you don't need to tick every box.

• Experience with designing and maintaining systems hosted on-premises.
