Job summary

Eggai is seeking a meticulous finance professional to join our 100% remote, Europe-focused team as day-to-day accounting lead. You’ll ensure receipts, invoices, and expenses are correctly coded and prepared for our tax advisor, spanning multiple countries and payroll setups.

You’ll own end-to-end accounting topics, spot gaps, and help build scalable finance processes in a fast-growing AI startup. You'll work closely with the Head of Finance and external advisors to deliver accurate financials.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional experience in finance and accounting.
• Fluent German (C1/C2) including accounting and tax terminology; English at least B1.
• Very good DATEV skills and solid understanding of COA and account assignment.
• Flexibility with tools; quick to adapt to other systems such as Odoo.
• End-to-end ownership of finance and accounting topics without daily guidance.

Responsibilities

• Preparatory bookkeeping: Pre-code receipts and prepare them for ongoing bookkeeping by our tax advisor.
• Receipt and invoice management: Collect receipts and invoices, review them, and follow up on open items.
• Correct allocation: Ensure expenses are assigned to the correct cost center and account.
• Travel expenses across Europe: Manage per diems, mileage allowances and rules across countries.
• Employees & freelancers across Europe: Know Europe-wide accounting topics affecting employees/freelancers.
• International payroll interface: Manage local payroll providers and salary payments.
• Cash flow: Contribute to cash flow structures and reporting.
• Process setup: Design and implement finance processes in an international growth setting.

the company is a fast-growing, 100% remote AI consulting and development startup based in Munich. We build agentic AI solutions for enterprise clients. We are growing in several European markets at the same time, are actively building our internal structures — and are looking for someone to help shape this growth phase.

Your role

You are our go-to person for day-to-day accounting. You make sure every receipt, invoice and expense ends up in the right place — cost center, account, country — and you prepare everything so that our external tax advisor can book without back-and-forth. You work across several European countries, with employees and freelancers, and with local payroll providers. We don’t have fully established processes yet, so you won’t just follow a playbook: you spot gaps, think the process through and set it up yourself. You work closely with our Head of Finance, who owns controlling, forecasting and reporting, and with our external tax advisor, who handles ongoing bookkeeping, annual financial statements and German payroll. You ideally bring your own experience from a tax advisory firm or a similar environment.

Your responsibilities

• Correct allocation: Make sure expenses are assigned to the correct cost center and the correct account in the chart of accounts
• Travel expenses across Europe: Manage per diems (meal allowances), mileage allowances and comparable expense rules across countries for our teams in Europe
• Employees & freelancers across Europe: Know the Europe-wide controlling and accounting topics that apply to employees and freelancers — or get up to speed on them quickly
• International payroll interface: Manage local payroll providers and salary payments
• Cash flow: Think along on cash flow structures & reporting, and keep them up to date
• Process setup: Independently think through and set up finance processes and structures in an international, growing environment

What you bring

Must have

• 4+ years of professional experience in finance & accounting
• German at a fluent professional level (C1/C2), including German accounting and tax terminology; English at least B1, as our team is diverse and English is often the working language
• Very good DATEV skills and solid understanding of the chart of accounts and correct account assignment
• Flexibility with tools: you quickly find your way around other systems such as Odoo
• You have owned finance and accounting topics end-to-end, without day-to-day guidance
• You are comfortable in gray areas and make good decisions even without complete information

Nice to have

• Completed commercial vocational training or a degree with a focus on finance, accounting or controlling
• Understanding of how a balance sheet should be structured to be meaningful for investors — ideally through your own experience in a tax advisory firm or similar environment
• Exposure to controlling topics such as cost centers, forecasts or project margins
• Motivated, proactive and creative personality with a hands‑on mentality — you want to shape things, not just administer them
