Scientist MS&T Drug Substance (f/m/d):

Join Takeda’s MS&T Drug Substance Lab team and contribute to innovative vaccine manufacturing. Drive process development and optimization through experimental studies while collaborating with global teams to enhance processes and troubleshoot challenges.

What you will contribute:

  • Design, plan, execute, and evaluate experiments in the Drug Substance Lab, including cell culture, viral infection, and downstream processing up to manufacturing scale.
  • Collaborate with teams across MS&T DS/DP, CMC, QA, QC, regulatory and manufacturing to drive process improvements, troubleshooting, process life cycle management, and technology transfer activities within Takeda’s global Vaccine Drug Substance manufacturing network.
  • Identify experimental limitations and deviations, analyze root causes, propose solutions, and document findings in protocols, reports, and summaries.
  • Develop methods to improve and standardize existing techniques, sourced from scientific publications, network know-how and in alignment with status quo and the demands from manufacturing colleagues.
  • Analyze data from studies and tech transfer activities, contributing to regulatory submissions and internal reports.
  • Support lab operations via common lab tasks such as procurement, inventory management and introducing new technologies.
  • Assist in deviation investigations and continuous improvement projects.

In this position, you will report to the Manager MS&T Lab DS.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • MSc in a scientific discipline with at least 4 years of relevant experience in vaccine or biologics Drug Substance process development, MS&T labs or start-ups.
  • Theoretical and practical expertise in mammalian cell culture, live-virus handling, and downstream processing techniques such as purification and tangential flow filtration.
  • Hands-on experience in conceptual experimental design, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills in German and English.
  • Ability to assess risks, identify issues, and implement solutions in process development studies.
  • Capability to create position papers based on experiments and bibliography to reinforce the knowledge sharing and improvement of competencies.
  • Hands-on mentality with lab activities and in support of colleagues, to ensure successful execution of complex experiments.
  • Experience in bioanalytical methods and/or sustaining cGMP for drug substance processes in manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals is a plus.
