Jobbeschreibung
Overview

GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the world’s largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity working in this international environment in a team committed to conduct excellent science every day.

The “Superconducting Magnets & Testing” (SCM) department is looking for a candidate to join its “Magnet Electrical Systems” (SCM-MES) group as a

Scientific-Technical Associate (all genders)

Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering

Adept in superconducting FAIR components and magnet protection systems. As part of the FAIR project, corresponding devices have to be specified, qualified and brought into the future accelerator facility including its main machines SIS100 as well as Super-FRS. Your scientific knowledge in guiding related processes and your hands-on participation in testing, installation and commissioning will be a significant contribution to the successful launch of FAIR.

Responsibilities
  • Scientific expertise and analysis in the field of superconducting FAIR components and current leads.
  • Electrical quality assurance and maintaining test operation at superconducting FAIR modules.
  • Validation of the FAIR Quench Detection System as well as technical coordination of implementation and commissioning.
  • Work package leader “SIS100 Quench Detection” and deputy work package leader “SIS100 Electrical Systems”
  • Planned for the future: Scientific and administrative management of the SCM-MES group as a deputy.
Qualifications
  • Degree with a doctorate in Applied Physics and/or Electrical Engineering or comparable qualification.
  • Profound knowledge in the field of superconducting magnets technology as well as superconducting components protection.
  • Proficiency in simulation and calculation of characteristic parameters for magnet protection as well as post-mortem quench data analysis would be a plus.
  • Experience in electrical measurement, sensor technology, analogue/digital signal processing and measurement data acquisition via Ethernet as well as data processing and data synchronization within linked systems.
  • Know-how in EMC-compliant assembly of electrical systems would be an asset.
  • Programming skills with Python and C/C++.
  • Familiarity with MS-Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS-Office applications.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, ideally a competent German ability.
  • Independent, cooperative working style, social skills, sense of responsibility and team spirit.
