Jobbeschreibung

The Third Institute of Physics - Biophysics - at the Georg August University Göttingen is look-ing to fill a part-time the position of a

scientific researcher in biophysics (all genders welcome)

on the topic: Metal-Induced Energy Transfer Spectroscopy and DNA tension sensor for investigating the mechanical forces and dynamics between macrophage and epithelia cells

The core aim of the project is to implement and apply Metal-Induced Energy Transfer (MIET) microscopy to investigate the dynamic mechanical interplay between immune and epithelial cells in model systems of lung tissue, with a particular focus on macrophage-epithelial cell interactions during tissue homeostasis, inflammation, and repair. This inter-disciplinary project will leverage state-of-the-art biophysical methods to understand how mechanical forces, active membrane fluctuations, and adhesion molecule dynamics contrib-ute to cellular communication and tissue regulation. This project will collaborate with Prof. Andreas Janshoff (Chemistry Department, Uni. Göttingen). A range of advanced techniques will be employed, including mechanical tension sensors, fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule force spectroscopy (AFM), electrochemistry (ECIS, TER), and surface engineering.

The postdoctoral candidate should hold a diploma or MSc degree and a PhD in chemistry and biology, or a related field. Ideally, the candidate has a background in DNA nanotechnol-ogy, mechanical sensor, fluorescence imaging or electrochemistry, along with experience in cell culture. A strong publication record is a plus. Proficiency in programming with MATLAB or Python is highly desirable. Proficiency in English is required. Our group offers a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment-an excellent setting for develop-ing a career in biophysics at the interface of nanoscience and cellular biology.

The position is offered for 3 years (start: October 1st, 2025). The work time is a part-time position (60% full position, 23,88 hours per week), and salary will be paid according to the German tariff TV-L E13.

The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular empha-sis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply in fields in which they are under-represented. The University has com-mitted itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports their employees in balancing work and family life. The mission of the University is to employ a greater number of severely disabled persons. Applications from severely disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
