Job Description:

Your role

We are seeking a highly motivated light microscopy expert. The successful candidate will work as a scientific officer in the (ALMF) at EMBL.

You will teach and support users in advanced light microscopy technologies, including assay development, automated image acquisition, image data analysis, and large-scale data management.

You will also write custom software packages to enable automated experiments and develop custom hardware in collaboration with EMBL workshops and industrial partners.

You will participate in testing and establishing cutting-edge microscopy technology in collaboration with industrial partners and will organize and teach international courses on advanced microscopy techniques.

Closing date: 5 August 2024

Contract duration: 3 years (renewable)

Grading: Grade 5 or 6 depending on qualifications and experience (monthly salary starting at €3,925 or €4,459 after tax but excluding pension & insurances) + benefits

You have
  • A university degree in life sciences, physics, or engineering, preferably with a PhD.
  • Solid experience in advanced light microscopy techniques.
  • Practical knowledge in automation of image acquisition, image analysis, and data handling.
  • Good communication and organizational skills; team player.
  • Fluency in English.
You might also have

Experience in biological sample preparation, scientific core facility work, training course organization, microscopy technology development, or programming skills (e.g., LabView, Matlab, C++, Java, Python) is beneficial.
