Scientific computer scientist (f/m/d) in the research project

Reference number: FK5-5-2025 Pay grade 13 TV-L

Full-time (39.2 hours/week) position limited until 29.02.2028.

Project Overview

The LetsROC project (Remote Operation Center for (semi-)autonomous shipping) aims to develop and certify human-machine interaction concepts for Remote Operation Centers (ROC) monitoring and controlling maritime fleets. This involves identifying operational scenarios, requirements, and parameters such as navigation data, sensor information, system states, and error messages. Integrating simulator data into the ROC platform will be a key contribution from HSB.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Work on projects within the Remote Operation Center research initiative.
  2. Plan and conduct workshops, documenting results.
  3. Coordinate development work in ship simulators with project and industry partners.
  4. Ensure the achievement of project milestones.
  5. Publish research results in journals and present at conferences.
  6. Participate in future funding applications.

Candidate Profile

  • Master's or diploma degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and interdisciplinary thinking.
  • Experience managing complex projects with deadlines.
  • Structured, independent, and team-oriented working style.
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English.
  • Experience with simulation, especially in maritime contexts, and Human-Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Knowledge of maritime protocols (NMEA0183) and Linux OS.
  • Interest in maritime processes.
