A leading research institute in Germany is seeking a Scientific co-worker / PhD student to investigate co-exposure scenarios in toxicology. This part-time position involves experimental work, development of analytical methods, and participation in a doctoral program. Candidates should have a relevant university degree and practical experience in cell culture and chemical analysis. The following position is available immediately in the Pesticide Safety Division of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR):
BfR independently prepares expert opinions and statements on issues of food, feed, and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany based on internationally recognized scientific evaluation criteria. It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. BfR thus contributes significantly to the protection of human health.
The position is part-time, with 65% of the regular weekly working hours (currently 25.35 hours) and is intended for pursuing a doctorate. Participation in the accompanying doctoral program is mandatory. This program imparts scientific and methodological knowledge and provides opportunities to present doctoral projects in internal events and benefit from scientific exchange.

The assessment of mixtures and their toxicity remains a regulatory and scientific challenge. The planned PhD project will investigate the interaction of food-borne toxicants with realistic co-exposure using New Approach Methods (NAMs). The focus will be on systematically investigating mechanisms of mixture toxicity in the low-dose range. This position supports research into regulatory concepts for the risk assessment of mixtures, aiming to understand low-dose mixture effects and develop regulatory strategies across multiple regulatory silos.
