General Position Description

The Safety & Health Manager (SHM) ensures optimal safety performance and awareness by overseeing all safety, health, and environmental policies within Conti Federal’s programs. The SHM reports to the Director of Safety and Health and is responsible for implementing company-wide and site-specific safety, health, and environmental plans. The role involves analyzing safety trends and leading safety improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

1. Lead a team of Site Safety and Health Officers (SSHO) across various projects in Germany.
2. Develop and implement Accident Prevention Plans and Site Safety and Health Plans for new projects.
3. Analyze safety trends and collaborate with management to improve safety performance.
4. Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations including EM385, OSHA, DOT, and EPA.
5. Maintain project documentation such as reports, audits, and safety meetings.
6. Enforce policies with project teams and address non-compliance issues.
7. Conduct site visits and meetings to ensure safety programs are effective, implementing improvements as needed.
8. Coach project teams on safety behaviors and support planning and implementation of safe operations.
9. Oversee medical surveillance programs and interface with insurance and regulatory bodies.
10. Manage mishap investigations and corrective actions.
11. Deliver required safety training and update safety procedures manuals.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship required for security clearance.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in safety, health, and environmental fields.
• Certifications: CHST or OHST, CSP (in pursuit or certified), OSHA 30-Hour, HAZWOPER 40-hour, First Aid/CPR.
• Knowledge of EM385, OSHA, DOT, EPA standards; air monitoring and sampling.
• Experience in developing and delivering safety training.
• Leadership, teamwork, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite, including confined spaces and heights.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
