We are looking for an exceptional individual to join ExoMatter as a Ruby on Rails developer. In this role, you will work directly on our customer-facing platform and internal tools that power our Materials R&D platform.

Become part of a young deep tech and software startup based in Munich and revolutionize materials development with us. ExoMatter is a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and part of the UnternehmerTUM family of startups. We have a first product on the market with paying customers like Airbus and BSH and a strong upward trajectory.

Tasks

As a Ruby on Rails developer, you will be responsible for maintaining and further developing our customer-facing materials screening and computation platform, including internal management tools. You will work in our small but growing development team, alongside our Python backend developers and our team of materials scientists.

Knowledge about Materials Science is not required

• You will implement new application functionality, build new interfaces, and maintain the existing codebase.
• You will work directly in our established Ruby on Rails codebase.
• You will work on integrations between our Ruby on Rails application and our Python computation backend, including scaling our queuing and pooling systems.

Requirements

• You have 3+ years of commercial experience working with Ruby on Rails and have ideally built at least one application from scratch.
• You have strong experience in testing, specifically with RSpec.
• Ability to work autonomously and self-manage is very important.
• Fluent in spoken and written English; German skills are a plus.
• You live in Munich or are willing to move there and work approximately 50% on-site.
• Experience with Sidekiq or other job management systems.
• Experience with Python.
• Experience working in a startup environment or in a small team.

ExoMatter has developed an AI-based, data-driven materials R&D platform to help manufacturing companies find better materials faster, with an edge in cost, sustainability, and performance data. We create a shortlist of the top ten material candidates from theoretical datasets with millions of materials, tailored to the customer’s application. Our approach involves data mining, machine learning, enriching data with calculations, and applying multidimensional optimization algorithms (e.g., performance, cost, CO2 footprint).
