RESPONSIBILITIES
In our BASF Renewable Energy GmbH (BREn), you will actively manage risks for the energy trading business in close cooperation with the trading desks.
- You will make risk-avoiding adjustments to current methods of operation to minimize future risks.
- You will undertake risk evaluation, measurement, and compliance with the risk management framework, including VaR, stress testing, and validation of input parameters used by valuation and risk measurement models.
- You will interact with financial planning, energy accounting, regulatory groups, financial reporting, contracts groups, and gas & power supply operations to stay updated on current events and issues surrounding power resources and regulations.
- You will provide analytical support for strategy development and the portfolio hedging program, and stay informed about energy and commodity market developments, providing regular briefings to the team and stakeholders.
- Additionally, you will conduct training sessions and promote awareness of risk management practices, educating the business and operations teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in economics, business administration, mathematics, business mathematics, business information systems, or equivalent experience in the energy, finance, or insurance sectors. A Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification may be beneficial.
- At least 2 years of experience in the energy sector; experience in power markets is a plus.
- Experience with trading systems, ideally ETRM systems (e.g., Allegro, FIS, Contigo), and in operational finance & risk roles, particularly in power or commodities.
- Strong knowledge of risk management with previous experience as a risk assistant or risk analyst.
- Understanding of economic optimization, risk, and market analytics.
- Excellent research skills using the internet and first-person interviews.
- Proficiency in computer skills, data entry, MS Office, and excellent communication skills in English; German proficiency is an advantage.
