Risk Engineer – General Property (m/f/d)

for the unit Risk Engineering

The Loss Control Engineering (LCE) department is a center of competence in Munich Re for technical risk assessment of mostly highly exposed single risks and individual technical consultancy. Our global clients are underwriters and claims managers at Munich Re as well as external insurance brokers and insurers. The various services are tailored to the specific situation and needs of the client.

The Risk Engineering unit, as part of LCE, focuses on the assessment of fire and explosion risks, machinery breakdown, and the inherent hazards arising from industrial processes.

We are looking for a Risk Engineer (m/f/d) with sound knowledge in the assessment of industrial risks as well as corresponding protective measures.

Responsibilities:

1. Advise and support underwriters in the technical assessment of insurance risks.
2. Independent planning and execution of customer visits worldwide to analyze inherent risks and protective measures as well as documentation of relevant aspects in survey reports (on-site surveys).
3. Evaluation of external survey reports based on Munich Re standards (desktop reviews).
4. Follow-up of the risk-related development of important clients (Account Engineering).
5. Training and advising external and internal clients and providing them with technical support on a wide range of industrial topics.
6. Internal communication on risk engineering topics, e.g. seminars, workshops, papers.
7. Collaboration in internal working groups and projects, participation in the development and revision of MR-internal risk engineering standards and tools.
8. Independent continuous self-learning regarding trends and developments in the relevant industries to support Munich Re in forming opinions on emerging technical issues with an impact on insurance business (e.g. IoT, new battery technologies, AI, etc.).

Your Profile:

1. Successfully completed engineering degree, preferably with a focus on mechanical engineering, fire protection or loss prevention.
2. Several years of experience in industrial loss prevention.
3. In-depth expertise in one or more of the following areas: Insurance, claims handling, risk assessment, protective measures and protection concepts.
4. Strong ability to analyze and evaluate technical processes and their economic backgrounds.
5. Talent for developing holistic approaches and abstract reasoning, including the ability to communicate complex content in an easily understandable way to internal and external non-specialist audiences.
6. Strong service orientation, high level of social competence and ability to work in a team, efficient task prioritization and self-organization.
7. Business fluent in German and English, further foreign language skills desirable.
8. Interest in travelling internationally.
