Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a RHEL Linux Support Engineer to provide 2nd and 3rd level support for Linux-based R&D and customer workstation environments in Germany. The role involves troubleshooting RHEL-related issues, collaborating with R&D and infrastructure teams, and driving sustainable solutions while maintaining documentation and knowledge bases.

Responsibilities

• provide 2nd and 3rd level support for Linux-based R&D and customer workstation environments
• troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to RHEL, hardware, virtualization, networking and software installations
• analyze and drive resolution of customer and internal escalation cases (Yellow Flag investigations)
• support software releases, platform updates and integration activities
• work closely with R&D, platform and infrastructure teams to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
• maintain workstation configurations and ensure compliance with platform standards
• create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles and troubleshooting guides
• contribute to automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and user experience

• provide 2nd and 3rd level support for Linux-based R&D and customer workstation environments
• troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to RHEL, hardware, virtualization, networking and software installations
• analyze and drive resolution of customer and internal escalation cases ("Yellow Flag" investigations)

• have successfully completed studiesin Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineeringor a comparable qualification
• have Experience supporting large-scale Linux workstation environments
• are familiar with ticketing systems and incident management processes
• have experience with configuration management and automation tools
• understandsoftware development workflows and release processes
• possess strong hands‑on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
• have proven Linux troubleshooting and system administration skills
• have a good understanding of virtualization technologies and enterprise workstation environments
• Experience with Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages
• Solid networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and security fundamentals
• communicate professionallyin English; German language skills are considered an advantage
