The University Hospital Bonn (UKB) is one of Germany’s leading university hospitals, combining top-level performance in medicine and research with excellence in teaching. Each year, more than half a million patients receive inpatient and outpatient care at the UKB. Around 3,500 students study medicine and dentistry here, and over 600 people are trained annually in healthcare professions. The following full‑time (38.5 hours/week) position is to be filled as soon as possible in the Institute of Human Genetics of the University Hospital Bonn:
Research Scientist position (TV-L EG 14, 100%) (m/f/d)
to establish and lead the new *“International Biobanks – Data Access and Analysis Hub”* of the Medical Faculty, set up as a central service unit to support clinical‑translational research. The position is to be filled as soon as possible and initially available for three years due to a professional/occupational agreement, with the possibility of extension.
The analysis of biomedical data provided by epidemiological databases, biobanks and registries plays an increasingly important role in basic and translational research. Together, these resources provide extensive and diverse datatypes (including genetic, phenotypic, imaging and multi‑omics data) from several hundred thousand people.
In order to make this data efficiently accessible to researchers and clinicians across diverse disciplines of the University Hospital Bonn, a collaborative central platform will be established at the Medical Faculty. The platform will be affiliated with the Research group “Immune Genetics” (Prof. Kerstin Ludwig) at the Institute of Human Genetics, which is one of Germany’s leading centers in the identification of genetic risk factors for multifactorial disorders. We are centrally involved in numerous cooperative projects across the campus and at national and international level. In a vibrant and unique scientific environment, the University of Bonn, the *“International Biobanks – Data Access and Analysis Hub”* will strengthen the Research Area “Genetics & Epidemiology” of the Medical Faculty, and will particularly support clinicians and scientists of the Cluster of Excellence “Immunosensation3”.
