Jobbeschreibung

Join our university as soon as possible in a full-time, temporary position until 31.12.2026 as a Research Associate – Edge Computing (IT-Systems).

Faculty of Computer Science

Salary level: 13 TV-L

Edge computing is a rapidly evolving field in the computer and network industry. The project EMULATE, in collaboration with industry partners, aims to develop innovative tools to enhance performance for demanding edge applications such as autonomous driving, augmented reality, and drone control.

Your future responsibilities include:
  1. Developing tools to measure and analyze the performance of edge applications in IT systems (e.g., servers, user devices).
  2. Creating new IT-system-related approaches to optimize the performance of edge applications.
  3. Contributing to edge emulation and diagnostics toolsets.
  4. Defining your own research areas aligned with project objectives.
  5. Publishing scientific papers for conferences and journals.
  6. Working in a state-of-the-art lab environment, including 5G campus networks and high-performance server clusters.
  7. Collaborating within an interdisciplinary, international team of IT, network, and application experts.
Candidate profile:

You should have a passion for computer science or related fields with a strong research interest. A master’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related area is required. Professional experience demonstrating your passion is advantageous.

Preferred qualifications and skills:
  • Solid knowledge of IT and embedded systems.
  • Experience in software development using object-oriented languages.
  • Basic understanding of networking (e.g., TCP/IP, Ethernet).
  • Familiarity with virtualization, containerization, and orchestration technologies.
  • Willingness to learn about edge computing, system performance optimization, 5G/6G technologies, and artificial intelligence.
  • Proficiency in English; German skills are not necessary.
