A leading research institution in Hamburg is seeking a part-time Research Associate for a project on the quality of raw milk involving proteolytic activity of Acinetobacter spp. The position requires a relevant Master's degree and extensive microbiological experience. Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
This is a pre-competitive research project in collaboration with the department of Microbiology and Biotechnology of the Max-Rubner Institute in Kiel, which is funded by the FEI (Research Association of the German Food Industry). Your core responsibility is to pursue your research project, involving creating and executing a screening assay for lipolysis, investigating the substrate specificity and the enzymate kinetics of diverse lipases as well as the lipase gene expression profiles dependent on diverse environmental parameters. Furthermore, you will establish a mass spectrometry method for the evaluation of metabolites. In collaboration with our project partners, you will characterise different lipases from Acinetobacter spp. milk isolates and will provide data for the fast detection method which will be established at MRI. You will also be responsible for the preparation of reports to the funding agency and the organization of project meetings.
A university degree in a relevant field.
A degree (Master or equivalent) in Food Chemistry, Food Science, Biotechnology, Biology, Molecular Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline is preferred. You bring extensive theoretical and practical microbiological and molecular biological experience, for example by a thesis or an industrial placement in these areas.
