Jobbeschreibung

Digitization poses major challenges for society, business, and politics. In order to shape it successfully, many practice-relevant research questions of cybersecurity and privacy protection need to be addressed.
The National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE is a research institution of the Fraunhofer Society, with the participation of the Fraunhofer Institutes SIT and IGD as well as the universities TU Darmstadt and Hochschule Darmstadt. In a hitherto unique and innovative model of cooperation between university and non-university research, ATHENE conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of the economy, society, and state and sets scientific impulses.
Fraunhofer SIT is one of the leading research institutions for IT security in Germany and Europe. The focus is on applied research and the development of innovative solutions for real security and data protection issues.

What you will do

Many successful attacks on IT systems are based on exploiting vulnerabilities in software. Systematically finding and closing these gaps before any damage can be done is therefore one of the major IT security challenges for the future. We are researching automated methods for the detection and verification of vulnerabilities. Become part of an ambitious team that works on a diverse range of projects, both in research and on behalf of customers, covering a wide range of topics. With us, you can conduct and publish scientific research as well as work on practical real-world issues. With us, research results do not disappear in a drawer but are applied at well-known companies.

What you bring to the table
  • A university degree in computer science, IT security, or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of IT security / software security
  • Sound programming skills in Java and/or C/C++ are also needed in larger software projects, as are skills in software development and debugging
  • Experience in static and dynamic program analysis (lectures on compiler construction, code analysis, knowledge of assembler, etc.) as well as software engineering are an advantage, but can also be acquired at our company
  • Good knowledge of German and English, both written and spoken
What you can expect
  • You will work at a renowned, internationally leading institute in the field of cyber security (location: Darmstadt or Germany-wide)
  • Opportunity for doctoral studies or further scientific development
  • Qualification opportunities for a career in both academia and industry
  • Modernly equipped workplace
  • Collegial, dynamic working environment in a creative atmosphere
  • We live in a family-friendly culture with flexible working hours and the possibility to work completely remotely upon agreement

The weekly working time is 39 hours. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
