The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology ISIT offers an advanced research and production environment in Itzehoe with a state-of-the-art equipment pool, two clean rooms, and 700 m² of laboratory space for a total of approx. 190 employees and several site partners. As a bridge builder between research and industrial development, Fraunhofer ISIT is a particularly innovative part of the value chain.
The scientific focus of this position is on the integration of novel functional thin films (ferroelectric nitride) in digital and analog information storage devices. These have the potential to be significantly more energy-efficient and robust than conventional information storage devices - and are therefore predestined for use in particularly challenging environments such as outer space or the Earth's interior. The work includes the conception of these components, their design, their production in Fraunhofer ISIT's clean room as well as the final electrical characterization - together with national and international research partners. Due to its research character, the position offers the opportunity for a doctorate.

What you will do

  • Conceptualization and design of ferroelectric information storage devices
  • Responsibility for the production of these information storage devices in the Fraunhofer ISIT clean room
  • Characterization, assessment and interpretation of final device properties
  • Documentation and communication of the results internally and externally as well as utilization of the results in publications and patents

What you bring to the table

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master's/Diploma/Doctorate) in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a comparable discipline
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing technologies, processes and of the design and/or characterization of microelectronic components
  • Advantageous: Practical experience in cleanroom processing for microelectronics
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and German
  • Enthusiasm for technical-scientific topics with a strong application focus
  • A high degree of independence, initiative and commitment
  • The ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new challenges and to thrive while taking on responsibility in a team environment

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. The position is initially limited to 2 years. However, we are interested in long-term cooperation.
