The chair of "Atomic-scale Characterisation" is studying materials at the atomic level.

Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities, offering a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment. The Atomic-scale Characterization Group at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a research assistant (WHB) (m/f/d) to support battery research activities (8 hours/week, limited to 12 months).As a member of our team, you will contribute to projects in battery chemistry, materials science, and electrochemical engineering, with a focus on electrolyte preparation, cell assembly, and performance testing. This role supports the development of next-generation energy technologies and sustainable storage solutions.

Your tasks:

• Conduct independent electrochemical measurements.
• Prepare the electrolyte and assemble lithium-ion battery cells in controlled environments (e.g., glove boxes).
• Test the assembled cells using battery cyclers and analyze performance.
• Support the team in data evaluation and scientific documentation.

Your profile:

• An excellent Bachelor’s degree (or currently enrolled in Master’s studies) in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Nanotechnology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Practical experience in electrochemical analysis and/or electrolyte preparation is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary, multicultural environment.
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
• High proficiency in spoken and written English.

Further information:

The opening is for an undergraduate assistant and is governed by § 6 of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (engl. Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act; WissZeitVG). The hourly wage is 16,30 €.The Place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.
