Research Assistant and Doctoral Candidate at the Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CRAI) - Leidner Research Group

The research institute CRAI (Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence) at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences is looking for a Research Assistant and Doctoral Candidate. Coburg University of Applied Sciences is one of the winners of the AI initiatives in the high-tech agenda of the Free State of Bavaria and founded its new research institute, The Center of Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CRAI), in September 2024 and opened the associated new building.

Your mission:

• Research in the area of your dissertation (researching the state of the art, identifying research questions, developing new methods, experimental evaluation of methods, publishing scientific papers at conferences and in journals under the guidance of your supervisor)
• Software development
• Occasional participation in the conception of research projects, writing funding applications and supervision of student assistants and theses (B.Sc./M.Sc.)

Your profile:

• Completed university degree (Master) in either computer science or computational linguistics (other areas possible as long as strong programming skills and UNIX literacy is present)
• Proven knowledge and experience in machine learning (ML), language understanding and generation (NLP) and information retrieval (IR)
• Solid programming skills and a passion for software technology
• Experience in working with UNIX/Linux
• Curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm for science and technology
• Structured and team-oriented way of working
• High level of motivation and initiative

The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and is limited to three years. The position can also be filled part-time. The position is classified in pay group 13 of the TV-L. Further scientific qualification (doctorate) is expected, which is possible in Coburg itself (Dr.-Ing. within the framework of the new doctoral college) or in cooperation with a university (according to the regulations there). A new laboratory and an excellent working environment are available (2 TB group server, several SSD/HDD-NAS, extensive data stocks such as newspaper archives, GPU cluster).
