Overview

Regional Safety Engineer, Data Center Health and Safety. AWS Data Services European Sovereign Cloud GmbH. Join the world class safety culture at AWS and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Engineer. You will own the Health and Safety function for your respective area, improve health and safety of data centers, advance safety culture, and protect employees. You will work with data center engineers who manage electrical switching equipment, large scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear. You will collaborate with security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to advance the global health safety program, and partner with employees and contractors to achieve safety goals and strengthen the safety culture. As AWS expands data capacity, you will partner with construction managers to identify and mitigate risks prior to live operations. This role operates in a fast-paced environment where infrastructure, tools, and processes rapidly evolve, advocating safe changes in new environments and projects.

This role is for an experienced Safety Specialist or Safety Engineer. The prime responsibility is to support safety operations for Data Centers. You will be part of regional and global teams working with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance safety of operations. Close collaboration with onsite physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems is required. You will also work with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives. You must be an effective communicator, delivering clear, concise messages verbally, in writing, and in public speaking settings. You will advise, instruct and train personnel on safety policies and procedures, and help teams incorporate and improve safety standards at their sites. You will report to the Regional Safety Manager – EMEA and be responsible for continuing to enhance safety of operations and construction. Some domestic and international travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Implement safety standards, policies and best practices.
• Provision and management of training: induction, refresher and manual handling training; develop and deliver training/presentations to support achievement of health & safety objectives; manage the training database for all employees and ensure all H&S training requirements are fulfilled.
• Collaborate with outside vendors (general contractors, sub-contractors, emergency services) as they relate to operations and construction.
• Ensure compliance and implementation of global safety programs and local regulatory legislation.
• Develop and review safety plans for on-site emergencies, special events and other unique safety situations.
• Perform safety data analysis and create benchmarking.
• Ensure safety record keeping and provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
• Consult and work with compliance teams on safety regulations interpretations and investigations.
• Develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks and prevent injury.
• Adapt to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy and deadlines.
• Work as part of a team and provide safety support to regions outside the local cluster when required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• University or Engineering degree in Environmental Science/Health and Safety/Risk Analysis.
• Minimum 2+ years of field experience in Safety.
• This role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in implementing safety programs, processes and procedural documentation.
• Experience in collaborating across multiple legal jurisdictions/countries in EMEA.
• Experience in data center, manufacturing, construction, or similar industry with a mix of full-time employees and 3rd party contractors.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and monitor compliance to health and safety laws in various countries.
