As a Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will be responsible for performing the onsite installation, servicing, and repair of complex equipment. You will investigate and approve the quality of equipment, instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system, and serve as the company liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. Furthermore, you will conduct onsite installations of the full range of Thermo Fisher Scientific electron microscopy systems and their associated options.

A Day in the life:

• Perform remote and onsite troubleshooting, repair, and installation of our sophisticated Electron Microscope and Surface Analysis (XPS) portfolio.
• Provide onsite training relative to maintenance and basic operation.
• Keep track and maintain local spare parts inventory.
• Dispatch third-party service providers for onsite work and follow up to ensure problems were resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
• Actively monitor the status of customer contracts. Track and schedule onsite PM visit(s).
• Ensure that all documentation related to service support activity is completed accurately and submitted on a timely basis. This includes Field Service Reports, Service Work Orders, and Quotes.

Keys to success:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field (engineering or physics) is required.
• Graduates must have knowledge of Electron Microscope.
• A full SEM / Dual Beam is equivalent to the BS degree.
• 5 years of service experience in a related scientific, technical, and/or customer-facing role desired.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for positive and effective communication with customers, colleagues, and superiors.
• Strong proficiency in instrument systems technology to include electronic (precise) mechanics, chemistry, and software technology.
• Experience in troubleshooting and repairing ultrahigh vacuum and high voltage systems is an advantage.
• Literate in Windows software environments.
• Fluent in English and preferably German.
• Ability and desire to travel often on short notice to customer sites to resolve problems or to support other field service personnel.
• Ability to travel internationally up to 30% depending on place of residence.
• Driving license B.
