Responsibilities
- Ensure the delivery of system and subsystem Signalling solutions in compliance with system requirements, quality standards, project schedules, and budgets.
- Define the Signalling system and subsystem Validation Test Specifications and oversee V&V activities according to ENG governance and company guidelines.
- Collaborate with RAMS functions, Engineering, Operations & Maintenance, and external suppliers to deliver project V&V documents at the system and subsystem levels.
- Participate in V&V planning, design reviews, and field tests during project bidding and delivery phases.
- Verify that subsystem suppliers provide adequate V&V evidence.
- Deliver comprehensive V&V reports for Signalling systems and subsystems.
- Maintain independence in V&V activities, ensuring compliance with standards and SILs.
- Provide technical support to RAMS Managers, interfacing with Safety Assessors, Employers, and Authorities.
- Report schedule and cost progress to the ENG Manager.
- Define requirements for testing environments and tools needed for Signalling system validation.
Technical skills, qualifications, and experience
- Electrical, Electronic, Computer Engineering, or IT degree or equivalent technical background.
- 5-10 years of experience in Signalling functional design.
- Proficiency in German (C1) and English (C1).
- Strong knowledge of verification and validation methodologies (IEEE, CENELEC EN 50126/28/29).
- Ability to produce detailed technical documentation and validation reports.
- Experience with requirements management and testing tools (IBM DOORS, Rational QMR, VectorCAST).
- Hands-on experience with railway safety-critical systems testing, especially ETCS onboard and trackside subsystems.
- Familiarity with train simulation/testing environments (Hardware-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop).
- Understanding of system integration and configuration management processes.
Desired skills/knowledge
- Certification or training in railway safety standards (EN 50126/28/29).
- Knowledge of ETCS architecture and levels, onboard and trackside equipment.
- Understanding of ERTMS/ETCS standards and documentation.
- Leadership skills to mentor engineers and manage validation activities.
- Familiarity with railway cybersecurity standards.
- Knowledge of software development models (V-model, Agile).
- Experience with certification processes for railway systems.
- Understanding of system interfaces within railway environments.
- Familiarity with software lifecycle management (V-Model).
- Programming skills in C, C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink are a plus.
