Job summary

Daikin Chemical Europe invites a PhD-qualified chemist to join our Innovation Center in Dortmund for advanced polymer research. You will design synthesis routes for thermoplastic polymers, run lab-scale experiments, and interpret complex data to shape future directions.

The role requires strong problem-solving skills, hands-on lab work, and effective communication in English, within a supportive, internationally oriented team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design new synthesis routes and chemical modifications for thermoplastic polymers and conduct lab-scale experiments.
• Generate, collect, analyze, and interpret complex data to define future research directions.
• Perform IP landscaping, competitive technology scouting, and trend monitoring.
• Drive product development initiatives using structured R&D processes, manage timelines, and monitor progress.
• Maintain accurate, detailed records of research findings and prepare performance reports.

Your responsibilities

• Designing new synthesis routes and chemical modifications for thermoplastic polymers and conducting lab-scale experiments
• Generating, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex experimental data to define future research directions
• Performing intellectual property landscaping, competitive technology scouting, and trend monitoring
• Driving product development initiatives using structured R&D processes, managing timelines, setting action plans, and monitoring project progress
• Maintaining accurate, detailed records of research findings
• Preparing and presenting performance reports

Your profile

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or a related discipline with a background in synthesis/organic chemistry of thermoplastics
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience within an industrial R&D or advanced laboratory setting, with a strong hands-on mentality
• Experience in operating state-of-the‑art analytical techniques and specialized laboratory instrumentation (ideally under high temperature or pressure environments)
• Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, with the capacity to interpret complex data independently
• Business fluency in English with strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly present scientific data to diverse stakeholders
• Highly self‑motivated working style with a proven ability to perform independent laboratory work and systematically manage project deadlines
• Thorough familiarity with EHS regulations in a chemical laboratory environment
