Job summary

Leybold in Germany seeks a highly skilled engineer to advance active magnetic bearing systems for high-speed rotors. You will define requirements for sensors, power electronics, real-time control, and work with external partners in electronics and software.

The role emphasizes model development, dynamic system analysis, and robust design across mechatronic disciplines, with collaboration across rotor dynamics, testing, and software teams. Fluency in English is required.

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed university degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering, Physics, or a comparable field, ideally with a PhD.
  • Fluent English language skills; German language skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Technological design and further development of active magnetic bearing systems for high-speed rotors.
  • Definition, specification, and evaluation of requirements for sensors, power electronics, real-time systems, and control functions.
  • Technical coordination and evaluation of external development partners in the fields of electronics and software development.
  • Development and validation of system models to describe the dynamic behavior of rotors, magnetic bearings, sensors, and control systems.
  • Analysis and optimization of the stability and robustness of mechatronic systems.
  • Evaluation of sensor, actuator, and electronics concepts with regard to performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Support of electromagnetic actuator and sensor design using analytical methods and numerical simulations (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, FEMM).
  • Definition, execution, and evaluation of laboratory tests to verify functional hypotheses and system requirements.
  • Technical support in the qualification of active magnetic bearing systems and the transfer of new technologies into series production.
  • Close collaboration with experts in rotor dynamics, mechanics, testing, electronics, and software development, as well as with external partners and research institutions.
