R&D Director Germany

Responsibilities

• Leading the R&D Organization in Germany - in close collaboration with the R&D Director Finland:

o Responsible for all German R&D teams in BioIT, Molecular Biology, Microbial Technology, and Enzyme Technology currently in total 35 R&D (technicians and scientists).

o Building and further developing the German R&D organization to support ABE’s growth strategy: People management, Talent management, Team development, Hiring.

• Represent the R&D organization internally and externally.
• Contributing to shaping the Technology- and Product-Development strategy of the company:

o Responsible for translating the Product portfolio needs of the different businesses into the technological capabilities required to develop these future product portfolios.

• Implementing Technology- and Product-development strategies in the German R&D organization:

o Ensuring that R&D remains ‘fit for purpose’; securing the required experience and capabilities in the R&D organization: developing and scouting new breakthrough technologies needed to drive innovation and to develop the next generation of product portfolios.

o Drive and lead further globalization, external focus & cultural change; helping the R&D organization in the transition towards a truly global, externally focused and business driven Technology- and Product-development organization.

• Reporting to the Global Director Portfolio Management and R&D.
• Member of the Strategic Development Leadership Team (together with heads of R&D Germany, Portfolio Management and IP management).

About You

• Demonstrated leadership experience in R&D / Product development organizations.
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build good and effective relationships within and beyond own R&D organization. Open-minded, collaborative and solution oriented.
• Proven ability to translate business and market needs into technological requirements and product development (and vice versa translate technological capabilities and innovations into business opportunities).
• Successful track record in industrial biotech R&D, preferably in the enzyme industry.
• Strong communication skills; Fluent in English, German is a plus.
• Has an international mindset and understands the importance and value of collaborating across geographies.
