About the Role

Do you aspire to be a Pricing Actuary in the commercial General Insurance space? Are you interested in developing product knowledge and analytical skills to enhance the profitability of a global underwriting portfolio?

The 'Pricing Actuary' reports to the Lead Actuary Property EMEA, Energy, APAC within the Actuarial Portfolio Management (APM) Unit. Your role involves executing portfolio goals using data-driven techniques.

You should possess strong technical actuarial skills and business understanding to effectively communicate analysis findings to global partners. Demonstrating high behavioral standards is essential for success in a multicultural, distributed team.

Your responsibilities include applying actuarial methods to analyze portfolios and trends, setting costing parameters for our proprietary property costing model, and impacting portfolio profitability and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work independently on complex case pricing and communicate outcomes to stakeholders, primarily underwriters.
  • Perform quarterly profitability analyses using techniques like experience and exposure rating to evaluate performance and forecast future results.
  • Build technical insights into portfolio performance to optimize financial management and profitability analysis across sub-portfolios.
  • Analyze portfolios by data segmentation and perform statistical analyses to derive insights.
  • Present results to partners including Portfolio Managers, Reserving Actuaries, and Finance teams.
  • Participate in rate review projects to update costing parameters of proprietary models.
  • Develop and enhance models for new and existing perils.
  • Develop data pipelines and transformation processes for analytics and model improvements.
  • Contribute to annual planning with actuarial insights.

About the Team

Our global team of qualified and student actuaries is spread across Bangalore, Munich, Zurich, Manchester, London, New York, Windsor, and Kansas City. We focus on the largest portfolio within Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, reporting to the CUO. We value diversity and promote professional growth.

About You

We seek an ambitious, trustworthy, and enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You should be a self-starter with initiative, and meet the following criteria:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field from a recognized university.
  • Over 5 years of actuarial experience, ideally in property or short-tail insurance for London Market businesses.
  • Qualified or progressing towards actuarial qualification.
  • Strong skills in MS Excel, and programming in R/Python or SQL.
  • Numerate with high attention to detail.
  • Open-minded and curious approach.
  • Strong team skills and global collaboration experience.

The salary range for Germany is between 71,000 and 118,000 EUR, depending on experience and qualifications. Swiss Re offers performance-based bonuses and various benefits, with eligibility depending on employment terms.
