Projections Technician –ALIZÉ – Resident Shows Division
Full-Time Position
We are looking for a Projections Technician to join our Projections team! The Projections Technician’s role is to work as part of the Projections team to run tracks as needed, install and maintain Projections equipment in a safe and consistent manner for the show. The ideal candidate will be a technically savvy individual with excellent interpersonal skills needed to maintain relationships with the team and other departments.
The Projections Technician will have the opportunity to:
- Run cue tracks, operate and troubleshoot department equipment, as directed for performances, Artist training and maintenance;
- Maintain all Projections documentation related to the maintenance, operation, etc. of equipment, systems and tracks;
- Set up and maintain interactive Projections system consisting of several computers, projectors, cameras, networks and other stage related equipment; Set up, calibrate and maintain multi-stacked DLP video projectors;
- Administer and maintain Windows and Mac based PC’s connected to a wide variety of stage equipment;
- Assist with administrative tasks and inventory by identifying any additional Projections equipment that may be required and communicate with leadership when necessary;
- Develop a thorough knowledge of Projections department equipment specific to the production, in order to operate equipment safely;
- Participate in special projects, including the construction and installation of new show elements, and other projects that include Projections elements or other needs that may fall within the department’s specialty, as directed; Maintain flexible schedule for such projects;
- Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections – particularly life safety and show critical – for all departmental equipment, as well as equipment that may not be directly owned by the company but has significance to the show and a relationship to the department’s function; ensure that these routines and inspections are appropriately documented;
- Adhere to and actively promote all applicable German occupational safety and health regulations, including DGUV standards, the Arbeitsschutzgesetz (ArbSchG), and industry-specific guidelines, to ensure the safe operation of all technical and performance-related elements of the production; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
- Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
- Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
- Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:
- At least one year of previous experience with interactive visual technologies and stage performance;
- At least one year of previous experience with video technologies and technical theatre, with specific training in electronics and theatrical lighting systems;
- Working knowledge of the following:
- Interactive visual technologies;
- MDI, DMX, Max / MSP;
- Ethernet and wireless technology (TCP/IP, UDP, Switches, Firewalls).
- Previous experience with the following:
- PC hardware setup, maintenance and administration; both PC & Mac operating platforms;
- Large format video projectors, video cameras, hardware and software video capture, editing and compression;
- Programming, operating and maintaining Media Server Playback systems and using their affiliated hardware and software;
- Technologies including DVI, HDMI, Fiber optics and RAID systems.
- Professional appearance and demeanor;
- Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
- A Beleuchtungsmeister certification is an asset;
- Qualified Event Technology Specialist (Fachkraft für Veranstaltungstechnik)
- Certification or experience in handling stage machinery, rigging, and safety equipment (e.g., Sachkundeprüfung, IPAF certification).
- High School Diploma and or GED required; Completed Ausbildung as Veranstaltungstechniker/in (Event Technician) or equivalent qualification in stage technology.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. - Fluent in English, both written and spoken; with an international cast the operational language will be English;
