Job Description

Can you explain what artificial intelligence considers to be “life” and what kind of algorithm agroecology is? If so, you might be exactly the right person to lead our new project, “Genetic Engineering and Artificial Intelligence.”

The convergence of biological and machine intelligence is the basis of a new technological wave that will bring about enormous scientific, cultural, political, and economic changes. This is where our project comes in: it is about education, information, debate, and a common understanding of this development. Our aim is to empower all those affected by the coming wave in agriculture, food, and environmental protection to participate in the debate on the basis of solid knowledge and to contribute their expertise.

• What should we expect when machines will soon design and produce genetically modified organisms?
• How should we deal with their ability to identify patterns in the oceans of data that make up life?
• What new insights can we expect from the use of learning machines?
• How can we ensure that the public debate on these issues is informed and constructive?
• Which rules should companies and scientific institutions adhere to, and which principles and goals should they follow? Are there any red lines?

Your tasks:

• Organise internal as well as public debates on the challenges of AI and Genetic engineering
• Bring together stakeholders from the different realms involved (AI, agriculture and seeds, food, health, environment and nature protection)
• Provide critical and accurate information for different target groups
• Empower those affected to have their say and bring in their expertise

Your profile:

• Familiar with the basics of AI and genetic engineering
• university degree in the field
• experience in public and science communication
• open minded, evidence based, sharp and passionate thinking
• bringing folks together
