Job Description

Your role in the future market of lasers and photonics

Since its foundation, Menlo Systems GmbH has been a world market leader in optical precision measurement with light and lasers. Using Nobel Prize-winning frequency comb technology, we provide laser systems for applications requiring high precision and accuracy. Our systems are used in metrology, spectroscopy, optical clocks, quantum technology, quantum computers, material testing, and 3D printing.

Our clients include leading research institutions and high-tech companies worldwide. To strengthen our team at the headquarters in Planegg-Martinsried near Munich, we are seeking a Project Leader – Physicist/Engineer (m/f/d) for Ultrastable Photonic Microwaves.

Your Tasks

1. Lead a disruptive ultrastable microwave R&D project to convert innovation into a product.
2. Participate in the implementation and characterization of a prototype.
3. Coordinate cooperation with external project partners.
4. Build complex laser systems, including free-space and fiber optics, mode-locked fiber lasers, frequency combs, vacuum components, and control electronics.
5. Contribute to the development of current products to reach higher TRL levels and develop new functionalities by exploring innovative applications.

Your Profile

• Ph.D. in physics, photonics, laser technology, electrical engineering, or a related field, preferably with postdoctoral research or 2-3 years of industrial experience in high-tech sectors.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mode-locked lasers, optical frequency combs, ultra-stable and CW lasers, high-finesse cavities, and stabilization electronics, along with project management experience.
• Systematic and analytical thinking.
• Excellent communication skills and team spirit.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Proficiency in English and German.
