Project Engineer – Bloom Engineering
Bloom Engineering improves the environmental sustainability of industrial heating applications, particularly focused on the aluminum and steel industries. The Project Engineer will oversee projects from concept through final implementation and post‑project assessment in the Dusseldorf office, ensuring each project is completed on time, in budget, and within scope.
Responsibilities
- Define the scope of the project in collaboration with the commercial group, engineering team and senior management.
- Participate in kickoff meetings and review the project scope and technical requirements with stakeholders and customers.
- Prepare and maintain project schedules, engineering documentation, progress reports, and monitor project costs, delivery schedules and technical milestones.
- Coordinate engineering activities with Sales, Manufacturing and Purchasing to ensure successful project execution.
- Manage project changes, customer revisions and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Document project activities, adjusting as necessary, to ensure successful project completion.
- Monitor all budgeted project expenditures, cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to Senior Management.
- Coordinate price changes and extended delivery dates when customers change the scope of the project.
- Design custom combustion systems and related industrial equipment.
- Develop mechanical designs and layouts based on customer specifications, process requirements and project objectives.
- Perform burner sizing and combustion calculations according to project and customer requirements.
- Size and select control devices, flow measurement equipment and related combustion components.
- Create and review engineering drawings, models, BOMs and manufacturing documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards and customer requirements.
- Identify technical risks and develop practical solutions to mitigate project challenges.
- Provide engineering support during manufacturing, assembly, testing, installation and startup activities.
- Work closely with Drafting to ensure accurate and efficient creation of manufacturing drawings.
- Review and verify burner systems, technical drawings and engineering documentation for functionality, technical accuracy and compliance.
- Support troubleshooting activities and provide technical solutions during project execution and commissioning.
- Participate in project close‑out meetings, document lessons learned and support continuous improvement activities.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of project management or project engineering experience.
- Experience in industrial sector project management or project engineering is preferred.
- Fluent in German and English both verbally and in writing.
Desired Characteristics
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is desired.
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail, multi‑tasking skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Analytically oriented with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
- Familiar with project finance and cost control management.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel intermediate to expert level), PowerPoint.
- Fundamental understanding of ERP systems and how they integrate operations with project integration.
- Initiative to drive continuous improvement as it relates to project planning through project evaluation.
- Energetic, curious, resourceful, highly creative and self‑motivated.
- Able to thrive in a fast‑paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage cross‑functionally.
- Willingness to travel.
