Job Description:

The University of Stuttgart Faculty Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology invites applications for a W3 professorship “Cognitive Robotics for Industrial Applications” in the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Information Technology.

The research areas of this professorship focus on state-of-the-art methods for sensors and actuators, information processing, and control. In addition to industrial robotics, we seek applicants whose research activities are in application domains such as logistics, architecture, agriculture, and life sciences.

The following research areas are considered:

  1. Development and integration of cognitive robot systems for complex applications
  2. Computer vision in cognitive robotics
  3. Method development for machine learning in cognitive robotics
  4. Modelling, controlling and adapting of robot-led processes
  5. Technologies and development methods for dependable, explainable human-machine interaction

The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in and further develop research and transfer activities on the research campus ARENA, the excellence clusters of the University of Stuttgart, and the innovation campus mobility, as well as the Stuttgart technology and innovation campus S-TEC and Cyber Valley.

This professorship (W3) follows the 'Berliner model', involving an appointment at the University of Stuttgart with full academic rights and duties, along with research and management duties at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA. The appointed person should engage in interdisciplinary research and teaching in computer science and engineering.

We seek an individual with extensive experience in leading large interdisciplinary research groups, strategic planning, acquisition, and implementation of large-scale national and international research and development projects. Experience in enhancing the efficiency of development processes and technology utilization is essential.

High-ranking scientific publications or patents with international visibility are required. Applicants should submit a short description of their three most important scientific achievements, not exceeding one page. The requirements for employment listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Württemberg University law (LHG) apply.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of projects with practical relevance and flexibility in research work.
