We collaborate closely with a number of world-class, internationally respected research institutes in the field of computer science: the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Center for Bioinformatics, and the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security. Theoretical Computer Science is a well-established area of research in Saarbrücken, spanning a wide array of topics in the field. We have a number of internationally renowned research groups working at the Max Planck Institutes for Informatics and for Software Systems, at CISPA, and at the Department of Computer Science. The successful candidate will benefit from the numerous opportunities for collaborative research at SIC.

We are looking for a highly motivated research scientist with extensive expertise in these research areas. This is a permanent senior professorship (lifetime tenure) at the German academic salary scale W3. We seek candidates with a strong research record in theoretical computer science, with a focus on algorithms, computational complexity, algorithmic game theory, algorithms engineering or related areas. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work aligns with the core topics addressed at top-tier conferences such as FOCS, STOC and SODA. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their scientific track record, but particularly on their potential for continued growth and future research excellence as well as on the novelty, creativity and uniqueness of their research vision.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to departmental research and teaching, including giving basic lectures in computer science. We therefore expect both experience in and an aptitude for academic teaching and a proven track record in acquiring external research funding. The language of instruction is English or German (basic courses). We expect the person appointed to acquire an adequate understanding of German within a reasonable time.
