Jobbeschreibung

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile.

The Institute of Physics at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) invites in the field of experimental physics applications for a

Professorship (W2) “Experimental Physics of discrete soft and biological matter“

starting at the earliest possible date.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg encompasses a wide range of disciplines, from physics to biology and psychology. Modern problems in soft matter physics align with one of the two focal areas at the Institute of Physics. The professorship is expected to actively participate in this research field of soft matter and biophysics.

We are looking for candidates with a proven record of outstanding scientific qualification within the field of experimental physics of soft-matter systems, which may include biophysical systems. Focus on experimental measurements on discrete, particulate systems shall exist, which means that they explicitly consider the presence of discrete constituents and objects. Examples are discrete colloidal particulate systems, activatable particles, living biological cells, collective dynamics, interactions between the objects and with their environment, or biomaterials including scale-bridging investigations from discrete particle properties to overall material behavior. Examples for suitable experimental methods are optical and mechanical measurements on particulate systems.

We look forward to future collaborations with existing research groups and projects at the Institute of Physics, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and beyond. Corresponding approaches are to be outlined in your application. We also appreciate your future participation in academic self-administration and active acquisition of third-party funding. Willingness to engage in both areas and experience in obtaining third-party funding are expected. Furthermore, employment is based on the preconditions for appointment according to § 35 (2, 3) of the Higher Education Act for the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt (Hochschulgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt; HSG LSA).

The candidate is expected to teach the entire breadth of courses in experimental physics and be able to offer specialized lectures within the represented research area. Furthermore, the professorship must contribute appropriately to physics courses for future teachers and to teaching export for students of other degree programs.

For further information about the position, please contact Prof. Dr. Oliver Speck at tel. +49(0)391/67-58676 or email: oliver.speck(at)ovgu.de.
