The Faculty of Social Work (FH) invites applications for the
Professorship of Social Work - Methods of Social Work (W2)
to be filled by October 1, 2026.

Your responsibilities
You will represent the methods of social work in research and teaching with a focus on caring for people at risk. You are expected to have professional expertise, especially in social work issues related to the profession and discipline, as well as experience in the area of empirical research in social work, as evidence-based social work is a high priority at the Faculty.
You generally teach 18 course hours per semester in accordance with the applicable relevant provisions, provide high quality and innovative teaching and assist in the supervision of students in the practical internship semester. You teach in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in “Social Work” as well as the Bachelor’s degree program for working professionals in “Nursing Science” and actively contribute to the further development of the study programs. You will also contribute to the University's scientific profile by planning and conducting application-oriented research and will be involved in the KU's Third Mission Strategy.
Assuming responsibility in the academic self-administration of the University is just as much a prerequisite as the willingness to cooperate with other subjects, higher education institutions and non-university partners. Furthermore, we expect active commitment as part of the community both within the University and beyond.

Skills/Qualifications
The requirements for employment are based on Art. 57 (3) Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act ( BayHIG ) and include, in addition to the general requirements of the position, at least a completed university degree in social work ( Diplom /Master’s degree), an educational suitability, the special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate in one of the following topics of social work:
Proven teaching skills, didactic skills, experience in the field of digitally supported forms of teaching and learning (proven e.g. through positive teaching evaluations, university didactics certificates or teaching awards) are expected.
Furthermore, you must provide proof of special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods acquired through at least five years of practical professional experience after graduation, of which at least three years must have been gained outside the university sector. In special cases, proof of professional practice outside the university sector may be provided by the fact that a substantial part of the professional activity was carried out in close collaboration between the higher educational sector and non-university professional practice over a period of at least five years.
We also expect participation in application-oriented research projects in the field of social work. Experience when it comes to acquiring peer-reviewed third-party funding is desirable. The ability and willingness to teach courses both in German and English is expected. The candidate is expected to acquire good German language proficiency within the first two years of their appointment. In addition, the successful candidate is desired to have established close national and preferably also international networks with other higher education institutions and/or partners outside the university sector, provide proof of relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals/books or with renowned publishing houses, and demonstrate interdisciplinary qualifications (e.g. leadership skills, role model function, participation in interdisciplinary qualification and networking offers, high level of social skills etc.).
The KU pursues a policy of intensive student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to spend an appropriate amount of time on campus. When appointed as a civil servant, the successful candidate must not be older than 52 years of age at the time of appointment.
