The Faculty of Languages and Literatures invites applications for the
Professorship of Art History (W2)
to be filled by the next possible starting date.
If the requirements under civil service law are met, the appointment shall be made in an unlimited civil service relationship according to grade W2.

Your responsibilities
As the holder of the professorship, you should represent the subject of Art History in its entire spectrum in research and teaching and contribute to the academic profile of the University through excellent research achievements in the form of (international) publications and peer-reviewed third-party funding. By initiating new and supporting ongoing research collaborations, you strengthen the academic profile of the Faculty and University. The willingness to participate in the KU’s internal research associations and in the Research Training Group “Practicing Place” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) is desired. You offer high-quality and innovative teaching in various degree programs in which Art History is integrated at the KU, such as in the Interdisciplinary Bachelor's and Master's degree program with the subjects of Art and Art Education, in the teacher training program (LehramtPlus), in the profile "Aisthesis. Cultural and Media Studies" and in the Bachelor's and Master's degree course in "European Languages and Cultures". Collaboration with other disciplines is desired in line with a transdisciplinary approach. In addition, you will be involved in the University's Third Mission Strategy, cooperate with other subjects and universities as well as with non-university partners. Likewise, the successful candidate is required to assume responsibility in academic self-administration.

Skills/Qualifications
As the holder of the professorship, you have in-depth research expertise with international visibility, as evidenced by relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals/books or with renowned publishers. Relevant teaching and research interests in historical, philological, theological, and educational subjects are highly desirable; experience in newer interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary art with socio-political and social relevance, e.g., in the field of multimedia or performative art, as well as art as a visual form of communication, is also welcome. Research and teaching potential with regard to digital methods in Art History is desired. You can demonstrate success in acquiring peer-reviewed third-party funding and are closely networked nationally and internationally with other universities and/or non-university partners and research institutions. Your proven teaching skills, diverse teaching experience and didactic skills are evidenced by positive teaching evaluations, university teaching methodology certificates or teaching awards, for example. Your interdisciplinary qualifications also include leadership skills, a role model function, participation in interdisciplinary qualification and networking opportunities and a high level of social skills. You are able to teach both German and English language courses.
The requirements for employment are based on Art. 57 Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act ( BayHIG ) and include, in addition to the general requirements of the position, at least a completed university degree in art history and/or visual studies, an educational suitability, the special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate in art history and/or visual studies, as well as additional independent scientific achievements. These can be demonstrated by a habilitation, a junior professorship or through equivalent scientific achievements, which can also be achieved outside the university sector. Managing a junior research group constitutes an equivalent scientific achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 para. 10 s. 5 BayHIG. When appointed as a civil servant, the successful candidate must not be older than 52 years of age at the time of appointment. The KU pursues a policy of intensive student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to spend an appropriate amount of time on campus.
