About Applications Engineering at ADI

We’re seeking enthusiastic and talented engineers—across a range of experience levels and skill sets in hardware and software—to join our BMS Applications Team in Ismaning, near Munich. A BMS system solution includes ADI integrated circuits, system hardware, software and algorithms, (RF) networking, functional safety, and more. Application engineers play a unique role, working on both product development and customer applications. This dual focus offers excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth in both technical and business domains.

We are especially interested in hardware-focused candidates who enjoy working with complex systems, collaborating with customers, and have broad technical interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design reference hardware for our ICs (schematics, PCB layout, integration).
  • Debug systems and perform root cause analysis.
  • Understand complex automotive OEM and Tier 1 ecosystems and support ADI product integration for global customers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define customer needs and influence new product development.
  • Author application notes, design guides, and technical articles.
  • Develop and execute test strategies, including writing PC or embedded code to control test equipment.
  • Analyze, model, and simulate system behavior.
  • Build proof-of-concept demos, system prototypes, and software tools to support BMS product evaluation.
  • Contribute to system engineering and functional safety (FuSa) design.
  • Conduct EMC testing and modeling.
  • Support thermal and mechanical design.
  • Design PCBs and manage mechanical integration.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • MSc in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Soft Skills

  • Eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Enthusiasm for supporting customers and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and navigate a large organization.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with mixed-signal electronic circuit design and analysis.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment for testing and debugging.
  • Working knowledge of Python.
  • Familiarity with embedded system hardware.
  • Skills in automation and programming for hardware or instrument control.
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, I2C, UART, SPI, and wireless technologies.

Preferred (but not required) Experience

  • Automotive or industrial system design (e.g., ASPICE, AUTOSAR).
  • Battery chemistry and algorithms (SOC, SOH, etc.).
  • Functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
  • System modeling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice, etc.).
  • EMC testing and modeling.
  • Low-power wireless systems, RF characterization, antenna analysis.
  • RF and mixed-signal IC test and measurement.
