The Role and the Team

As a Principal Engineer in the Search and Browse team, you will architect and develop our Search and Browse platform, impacting over 50 million customers across 25 countries. Your focus will be on scaling and evolving our systems, which currently manage approximately 15 million searchable articles across 600 nodes and 150 indices on Kubernetes, handling over 100TB of updates daily and supporting more than 10,000 RPS.

What We’d Love You to Do

• Design, build, and maintain a large-scale Search and Browse platform using Scala, Elasticsearch, Nakadi (Kafka), Flink, and Kubernetes, emphasizing performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with engineering and applied science teams to ensure a holistic platform development approach.
• Promote knowledge sharing and apply your expertise within and beyond the Search and Browse platform.
• Engage with diverse teams and stakeholders to contribute to the platform’s success.

We’d Love to Meet You If

• You have experience designing resilient, scalable distributed systems in cloud environments, especially with Kubernetes and AWS.
• You have a strong background in entity discovery and retrieval systems.
• You possess a blend of system design and hands-on coding skills.
• You are experienced with REST APIs and message queues.
• You have managed large Elasticsearch deployments.
• You are familiar with JVM languages like Scala, Java, and Kotlin.
• You understand Kafka and Flink technologies.
• You are passionate about agile practices and continuous improvement.
