Principal Software Engineer - OpenTelemetry Instrumentation

Job Description

Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana. It enables customers to leverage open source observability tools like Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, and Tempo without the overhead of installation and maintenance.

The Observability department helps developers understand their application's health and performance by providing tools for instrumentation, data ingestion, visualization, and exploration.

The OpenTelemetry instrumentation team ensures users succeed in instrumenting applications with OpenTelemetry, working closely with OpenTelemetry SIGs. Team members are experts in at least one programming language and knowledgeable across others.

Responsibilities

1. Support and lead the technical direction of the team, driving business conversations on OpenTelemetry strategy.
2. Be a visible OpenTelemetry expert. Teach others, promote best practices, and engage with the broader community.

Candidate Profile

• Ability to take ownership and influence both technical and business decisions at a director level scope.
• Passion for observability, with a knack for documentation and blogging.
• Engagement with customers and excellent communication skills.
• Open source experience, preferably with OpenTelemetry or Prometheus.
• Willingness to actively participate in the OpenTelemetry community.
• Curiosity for learning new programming languages and frameworks.
• Understanding of production environments, including operation and on-call responsibilities.
• Mentorship skills for guiding team members.

Compensation

In Germany, the salary range is €103,412 - €129,265, with additional benefits such as equity and bonuses. Compensation may vary based on location, experience, and skills.
