Job Opportunity: Detector Specialist at European XFEL

Join our Detector group to work on cutting-edge X-ray detector systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Integration, characterization, and calibration of X-ray detectors, focusing on new systems, including large detectors and small modules/prototypes.
  2. Participation in the installation, integration, and setup of new detector systems.
  3. Assisting in the setup and optimization of laboratory infrastructure for detector characterization and calibration.
  4. Supporting detector developers, mechanical, and electronics engineers in component testing and integration.
  5. Performing measurements and tests on detectors, including response characterization, stability studies, and calibration.
  6. Analyzing measurement data and collaborating with software colleagues to develop and refine calibration and characterization procedures and tools.
  7. Providing active user support for the instruments managed by the Data Department.

Qualifications include:

  • PhD in physics or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in hardware integration, vacuum setups, and mechanical assembly.
  • Experience in calibration and characterization of advanced X-ray or particle detectors.
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., Python) for data analysis and automation.
  • Experience with detector operation at light sources is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of detector front-end electronics, DAQ systems, and lab instrumentation is beneficial.
  • Experience with detector response simulation is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in English as the working language.
