Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for a PostDoc (m/f/x) in Experimental Solid-State Physics IV. The role focuses on quantum materials, including single-crystal synthesis and low-temperature properties, within the ERC StG distorting-to-grasp project.

The position is full-time, fixed-term for 2 years, with a start as early as possible and an apply-by date of 2026-09-02. English communication skills are essential, and a PhD in solid-state physics is required.

Faculty of Physics and Astronomy: Experimental Physics IV – Solid State Physics

In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for a

PostDoc (m/f/x)

At the Chair for Experimental Solid-State Physics IV, we perform research in the area of quantum materials. Our expertise ranges from the synthesis of single crystals to the low-temperature thermodynamic and transport properties of electronically correlated materials. We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoc who will strengthen our team with research in the field of new quantum materials and our ERC StG "distort-to-grasp".

• Experimental research in the field of new materials discovery: single-crystal synthesis, characterization, and physical properties

Your profile:

• The candidate should have a PhD in solid-state physics or a related subject.
• Very good skills in single-crystal synthesis and characterization,
• Experience in the preparation of compounds with volatile and toxic elements such as arsenic is advantageous.
• Very good skills in experimental low-temperature physics in the area of thermodynamics and/or transport.
• Good programming skills for experimental control/analysis software, such as Labview or python, are advantageous
• A high degree of self-motivation for independent research are required.
• In addition, the candidate should have very good communication skills (oral and written) in English.

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L).If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.
