Zusammenfassung

Ruhr-Universität Bochum sucht eine/n Forschungsassistent/in (m/w/x) zur Durchführung und Auswertung von Experimenten im Bereich zeitaufgelöster Terahertz-Spektroskopie. Zu den Aufgaben gehören die eigenständige Planung, Durchführung und Publikation von Ergebnissen in internationalen Konferenzen und Fachzeitschriften.

Die Stelle ist auf zwei Jahre befristet, Vollzeit (39,83 Std./Woche) ab 01.11.2026. Ein Doktortitel in Chemie, idealerweise Physikalische Chemie, sowie Erfahrung in der Betreuung

Qualifikationen

• Hochwertiger Hochschulabschluss mit Promotion in Chemie, bevorzugt Physikalische Chemie/ Chemische Physik.
• Fundierte Expertise in zeitaufgelöster Terahertz-Spektroskopie.
• Frühere Erfahrung in der Betreuung von Studierenden ist wünschenswert.

Aufgaben

• Planung, Organisation und Durchführung von Forschungen am Institut.
• Betreuung von Bachelor-/Master- und Doktorand*innen.
• Unterstützung bei Vorlesungen und Seminaren.

Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry: Chair of Physical Chemistry II, AG Professor Martina Havenith-Newen.

In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) 01.11.2026, we are looking for 1.

The chair of Physical Chemistry II deals with two main reserach thrusts: 1. Terahertz Spectroscopy - Ask the Water. THz spectroscopy is a sensitive tool to probe solute-induced changes in the collective water network motions. Time-resolved THz spectroscopy investigates the solvation dynamics of biological processes such as protein folding, enzyme activity, water dynamics and calorimetry. 2. High-resolution infrared spectroscopy molecules are embedded in ultracold, superfluid helium nanodroplets at 0.37 K to investigate their structure and dynamics. Microsolvation and Microaggregation of molecular clusters are studied using high-resolution infrared spectroscopy.

As a research assistant (m/f/x), you will independently and reliably prepare and carry out experiments, analyse results, contribute to scientific publications, participate in international conferences to keep your scientific knowledge up to date and give presentations to a broad audience etc.

Your tasks:

• Planning, organizing and conducting research at the Institute of Physical Chemistry II with a focus on " Optical Pump Terahertz Probe spectroscopy measurements of photochromophores to study the energy flow into the water".
• Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students

Your profile:

• you held a top grade full university degree with a doctorate in Chemistry, preferred in Physical Chemistry/ Chemical Physics
• very important is your expertise in time resolved Terahertz spectroscopy
• Previous experience in advising students is highly valued and preferred

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L TV-L.
