Postdoc (m/f/d) in the field of Parasite Genomics
The position is part of the project "Revealing the missing link: An integrative genomics approach to understand intracellular parasitism by protozoan parasites”, which is externally funded by an Exploration Grant from the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation. The project is limited until 31.08.2027 at the Institute of Veterinary Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H).
Your tasks at a glance
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our research team investigating the molecular adaptations of apicomplexan parasites during their evolutionary transition from free-living organisms to intracellular parasites. This project focuses on a newly discovered lineage of apicomplexans called corallicolids, which inhabit corals worldwide and serve as an ideal model for studying this transition (Kwong et al., Nature 2019). The successful candidate will use advanced molecular biology techniques to sequence the genomes of corallicolids from infected corals and compare them with those of other apicomplexans to identify evolutionary changes. Additionally, the candidate will assess the physiological impact of corallicolid infection on coral health, linking the genomic findings to an infection model.
Your qualifications and competences
