Responsibilities and opportunities
  • Opportunity to submit an unsolicited application for a postdoc position in experimental plasma physics.
  • With its postdoctoral positions in Garching and Greifswald, the IPP offers qualified young scientists the ideal opportunity to continue their research. We are looking for young scientists who have recently completed (or will complete in the near future) their doctoral degrees (PhD).
  • We are operating two large-scale experiments in Germany: ASDEX Upgrade (Garching) and Wendelstein 7-X (Greifswald). ASDEX Upgrade is a tokamak-type fusion plant, and Wendelstein 7-X is the world's largest stellarator-type fusion plant.
  • On the websites of the scientific divisions you can find information about our research topics and projects. Expertise is a plus, but a strong plasma physics background and passion for nuclear fusion are enough to get started. In your cover letter, indicate which topics resonate with you and how you'd like to contribute.
What a Postdoc position with us means
  • You will be part of one of the largest scientific and technical projects in Germany with interdisciplinary project teams. During your Postdoc phase you can expect exciting tasks and projects in an international scientific environment.   • Our postdoctoral research positions are temporary contracts, usually for 2 years with possible prolongation to 4 years. The positions are remunerated up to salary grade 13 according to the German public sector tariff (TVöD Bund).
