YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Travel to Ethiopia and Australia for field trials to investigate sorghum genotypes in different cropping systems for root traits related to drought tolerance
• Assist in the implementation of a sorghum-legume model system to study nutrient flows, root molecular biology and metabolism
• Conduct soil plant material sampling for soil biology and molecular studies
• Contribute to the analysis of multi-environment x genotype x management data sets from field trials
• Coordinate research activities within the ORACLE project and present the results at conferences
• Conduct bioinformatic analysis on omics and physiological data for sorghum in different cropping systems
• Collaborate with the PhD student and project partners from ACIAR/EIAR on research activities in both Australia and Ethiopia
• Engage in symposia and outreach activities for breeders and practitioners on relevant sorghum root traits for drought tolerance & legume intercropping

YOUR SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Plant Biology, or a related field
• Experience in analyzing root system architecture (RSA) and relevant root traits
• Knowledge of plant omics (transcriptomics, metabolomics) as well as genotyping
• Experience in conducting and evaluating field trials and greenhouse experiments
• Strong background in statistical data analysis and bioinformatic experience in analyzing omics data
• Excellent teamwork skills and intercultural competence for international collaboration
• Proficient English skills, both written and spoken
• Willingness to conduct research stays in Ethiopia and Australia
• Ability to think analytically and work independently
• Gender and diversity competence
