Kennedy Fox Associates are working with one of the world's premier oil refineries located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Germany. They foster an innovation, complex, high-capacity refining environment and culture and it's a privilege to be representing them.

They are seeking an experienced and strategic Plant Director to lead the operations of a medium-sized oil refinery located in North Rhine-Westphalia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of refinery operations, ensuring safety, compliance, mechanical integrity, efficiency, and profitability. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise in refinery processes, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

You will also be involved within various capex sized projects as the site undergoes expansion and change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement long-term strategies to enhance refinery performance, competitiveness, and sustainability.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee all aspects of refinery operations, ensuring optimal efficiency, product quality, and adherence to production targets.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce rigorous health, safety, and environmental policies in line with German and international regulations.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement cost-control measures to achieve financial objectives.
  • Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, suppliers, and the local community.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Drive process improvements and adopt new technologies to maintain the refinery's position as a global leader.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree or MBA is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 15 years in refinery operations, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role within a large-scale, international refinery.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of refining processes, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • In-depth understanding of German and EU environmental and safety regulations applicable to the oil and gas industry.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.

Attributes:

  • Professional certifications in project management, safety, or operations management.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a multicultural, international environment.
